Any student enrolled in Grade 7th-12th in any of the area public/private schools is eligible. At this time we are unable to accommodate elementary school students. But please indicate your interest using this form and if there are enough students, we will try to consider starting a different class. Is there a cost for the class? There is no cost to register for the class. Textbook will be available to borrow for the session. PDF versions of worksheets will be provided to students. Students can complete those online or print on their own. Will I get credit for the class? This is after school class and as such credits will not be automatically granted. However, the class prepares students to take language STAMP tests. Once students clear the STAMP test, they will get the Oregon Seal of Biliteracy. They can also apply for credits for language proficiency. Some colleges also grants credits for Seal of Biliteracy. Is this online only or in-person? While most classes will be Zoom/Online, we will try to have one class in the month as a in-person opportunity to interact and communicate in Hindi. Details will be provided well in advance. What are technology requirements for students? Students must have a laptop/tablet/chromebook device to have an online Zoom session and be able to participate in Zoom sharing. Phone screens are too small and are not effective for the class.Students must also have a valid email that can be used for sharing class materials and the communication. How long will the session last? First session is Sept-Dec. Next session will be a continuation to this and will be from Feb-May. Will I be able to move from Level 1 to Level 2 in middle of the session? At this time, we do not have the mid-semester assessment tests to move students to the advanced class, and logistically it will be a challenge for the student to move to higher level in the middle of the session. We expect the class level to span two semesters (full calendar year). But there may be an opportunity for students who have made exceptional progress to move to Level 2 class in the second semester. How many hours/week would a student need to spend? It depends on the student's abilities. But we expect that the students will spend approximately 2-3 hours in class, and additional 3-4 hours in the week for homework and language practice. How do I get more information?
